12.21.04: No news. (Is good news?) But go here for pictures.
07.30.04: Clearly, I am a bad fan. It has been more than two years since I last updated. (Hah -- it's like Confession! I am also a bad Catholic, but that's neither here nor there.) Anyway, it's not like I missed all that much over these last two-plus years here, and I did notice that Kevin McGlinchy was pitching in the independent Atlantic League. This year, I could not find him on any Atlantic League rosters, which I now see was because he was pitching in the Mexican League. But as of Tuesday, he is back in affiliated baseball! There is joy in Mudville! Pitched for the Iowa Cubs last night. The same Iowa Cubs whose manager looked down my shirt a mere two weeks ago. But that's also neither here nor there. Heh. ... Maybe soon I will update some statistics.
03.11.02: I noticed that Ron Wright also went from the Atlanta organization to the Tampa Bay organization. But he's not a pitcher. So my original theory lasts another day.
03.06.02: This is so exciting. There's actually news. This originally appeared on Feb. 25, at the Devil Rays' website. And I think the link is the longest known to man. Batting Around With Kevin McGlinchy. He seems like a good interview. And an interesting guy. Not that I'd know, and I'm biased anyway, but you can see for yourself.
02.20.02: A real live (OK, archived) article, with QUOTES!
01.02.02: Sigh. Well, OK, I'm nearly a month late in responding to this perfectly awful development, but to be fair, I've got a new job, and this news apparently was not important enough to merit a press release on the Atlanta or Tampa Bay web sites. Anyway, here goes:
Following in the footsteps of John LeRoy and Derrin Ebert (I think, and someday I'll check) before him, Kevin McGlinchy has moved from the former parent club of the Durham Bulls to the current parent club of the Durham Bulls. The Devil Rays. Historically, this has not been a career-builder. LeRoy ended up in the independent Northern League and then died from complications of (I think) shoulder surgery, which is just awful, because he was married and had two young kids. Ebert's story isn't nearly as tragic, but last time I checked, he was languishing in Double A Pawtucket, which is in the Red Sox organization, if you were wondering. And that was probably only a one-year deal, so who knows where he is now. Shades of Brad Woodall, anyone? But I digress. Perhaps the third time will be the charm on this little pipeline. (And, OK, if I missed someone -- and we're only counting pitchers -- and really there are more than two players who have gone from Atlanta to Tampa Bay, don't tell me, because it'll mess up my little theory here.)
