08.16.00: Check it out -- news! Not quite good, but you know, whatever. ... Kevin McGlinchy pitched Monday for the Gulf Coast Braves, giving up six hits and five runs in one inning, with no walks and two strikeouts in a 15-13 loss to the Marlins' rookie league team. (At least he didn't walk anybody! ;) )
08.09.00: Sorry -- no recent news because my computer is out of commission but actually there's not much to report. The only thing I've seen is from July 29, which said he got a cortisone shot and might get to go back to rehab sometime this month...
07.26.00: The good news: nothing wrong with his shoulder except tendinitis. The bad news: his shoulder still hurts. Grr. I might try to get the actual articles later. There was a quote or two.
07.21.00: If you heard a loud wail this afternoon, it was me reading the Braves notebook in the AJC. I didn't bother noting that McGlinchy pitched Wednesday, giving up a run on two hits, but this, this I have to mention (unfortunately).
"Kevin McGlinchy felt a twinge in his right shoulder during his minor-league rehabilitation outing on Wednesday afternoon. The Braves recalled him for the purpose of sending him to Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham to have his shoulder examined."
BAD.
On a happier note, the Braves signed Ryan Halla from the Northern League and sent him to Richmond. (John Rocker watch out...) I said earlier that the Braves should re-sign John LeRoy, who is starting for the New Jersey Jackals in the NL, and I still think they should (he's an All-Star!) but this is good as well. Halla was leading the league with 19 saves. Shawn Onley, another former Braves farmhand, also was named to the All-Star team; he's tied for the league lead with 7 wins.
07.17.00: Here we go with the same old refrain. Pitched the eighth inning for Richmond yesterday (in Game 1). Struck out one. R-Braves won in 16 innings and actually won Game 2 1-0 to sweep the doubleheader. (Amazing!)
07.16.00: Mr. Bill says: "A trio of pitchers who could provide some help aren't showing much at Richmond. Steve Avery hasn't been effective, Kevin McGlinchy has worked in only three games, leading Cox to say he has no plans to recall him, and Luis Rivera, recovering from shoulder tendinitis, was horrible in Friday night's start."
Why, why, why? Bobby has no plans to recall him because he's only pitched three innings. Give the boy some more innings then! There was the all-star break; he hasn't even had that many chances. And no plans -- what does that mean? No plans to recall him today? No plans to recall him this month? What? I read someplace that his velocity isn't where it should be, but that was after the first night, and I haven't heard anything else about it. Come on!
07.13.00: Pitched the eighth inning for Richmond tonight. Walked one, struck out one. (no hits, no runs, blah blah.) And I know I'm being impatient but he was supposed to be there a week and it's been a week! I realize the All-Star break was in there, but nonetheless, it's been a week!! He's made three appearances, so if he's feeling all right, they need to activate him. Right now. I suspect the powers that be will have him toss yet another inning in Triple-A. I haven't bothered to put this in the stats section. No one looks anyhow, so who cares? Ebert pitched in relief again.
07.10.00: Pitched the eighth inning in Richmond last night (again). A perfect inning this time. All zeroes. And the Richmond Times-Dispatch actually took notice. Some choice excerpts:
"Pugh allowed six hits, no walks and one run in seven innings, then received shutout relief from Kevin McGlinchy and Ricardo Jordan as Richmond broke a seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory before 4,277 at The Diamond.
The win marked the first time this season the Braves have won when scoring two runs or less. They were 0-31 in that department.
'When you get pitching and defense like that ...' said R-Braves manager Randy Ingle."
blah blah blah... then a quote from the man himself!
"McGlinchy is down from Atlanta on a rehabilitation assignment, recovering from tendinitis in his shoulder that has disabled him twice this season. He allowed three hits and a run in one inning in his first outing Thursday against Columbus but threw a perfect eighth yesterday.
'I'm happy with today,' McGlinchy said. 'I felt more like a reliever than charity. The first time out I felt real slow. I wasn't very sharp. Today, I was very sharp. I went out there and didn't go through the motions.' "
Think it's too much to hope for that they'll call him up (along with Remlinger) for Thursday's game in Baltimore? Given the track record, I rather doubt it, but I am hoping...
07.07.00: Pitched the eighth inning in Richmond last night. Gave up a run on three hits, one strikeout. No one seems to care because it was Steve Avery's first start in Richmond and he gave up 11 runs -- eight earned -- in 5 2/3 innings and Richmond lost 16-3. Oh well.
07.06.00: All my efforts -- thwarted. Richmond. Grr.
"Kevin McGlinchy will go on a minor-league rehabilitation assignment today in Richmond with a goal of returning after the All-Star break. He anticipates being in Class AAA Richmond, a level he skipped in his speedy rise to the majors last season, at least a week as he tries to return for the second time from shoulder stiffness."
07.05.00: Check it out -- rehab! (If he actually reports to the G-Braves tomorrow, I can go see the game that night. This would be a good thing.) And can I just mention that I absolutely LOVE Bobby Cox right now for naming Tommy to the All-Star team. (not really a question -- no question mark) :)
"Kevin McGlinchy was looking forward to a trip home to Boston this weekend. But instead of making the trip with the Braves, the native of Malden, Mass., will be going on a rehabilitation assignment. He will throw on the side in Atlanta today, then likely join AA Greenville.
McGlinchy, 23, went on the disabled list for the second time May 23 because of shoulder stiffness. He has pitched briefly for Atlanta, posting a 3.38 ERA in 5 1/3 innings of relief.
'I'm throwing about as hard as normal and there is no pain,' McGlinchy said. 'It's been a long time. I want to get back out there. Especially with all the other injuries.' "
Back to the very latest news.
