06.29.00: As soon as the All-Star break?!? Gee whiz. And can I just mention that he used to throw change-ups until he went from starting to relieving so it shouldn't be all that hard. (OK, so maybe they weren't the best change-ups, but nonetheless...)

"Two weeks into his throwing program, Kevin McGlinchy has begun throwing breaking balls to go along with his fastballs he's throwing at about 85-90 percent. 'It never was my slider when I felt pain, it was my fastball,' he said. 'But I'm throwing the ball pretty well compared to where I was two weeks ago.' McGlinchy, who could be on a minor-league rehabilitation assignment as soon as the All-Star break, has been working on a change-up in the meantime."

06.28.00: Sending out happy birthday wishes to my favorite relief pitcher AND my favorite UNC quarterback ever, Chris Keldorf. :)

06.25.00: This has been a not-so-great week already and then I saw this. After the All-Star break? Geez. (Yeah, I know, it's good that he's not rushing back and all, but still. I wanted him to get to pitch in Fenway.)

"Kevin McGlinchy is hoping to return to the bullpen following the All-Star break. He has begun throwing from a mound, though he hasn't been allowed to throw breaking pitches. He reports no pain in his right shoulder, which landed him on the disabled list May 24. McGlinchy plans to accompany the team on the trip to Montreal and New York and continue throwing, then begin a rehabilitation assignment with a minor league team in two weeks."

06.21.00: Progress. From Carroll Rogers:

"Kevin McGlinchy threw off a mound Tuesday afternoon for the first time since going back on the disabled list with shoulder stiffness on May 24. He threw for five minutes at about 60 percent and said he felt no pain.

'Feels good, feels strong,' McGlinchy said. 'Just got to be patient.'

McGlinchy knows he rushed back from his first trip to the disabled list -- April 17 to May 13 -- with the same problem. But he's still eager to return by the time the Braves play his hometown Red Sox in Boston July 7-9.

'I just need to build it up a little every day,' said McGlinchy, who might throw again today. 'The first time on the DL was a learning process.' "

06.18.00: OK, this basically says the same thing as last time, but there are different quotes. (From Thomas Stinson)

"Kevin McGlinchy, on the DL since May 24 with a stiff right shoulder, will throw long-toss (120 feet) today and barring a setback, hopes to test his shoulder from a mound on Monday. He reported no soreness some 10 days into his graduated throwing program. But while he has been throwing on a line, he understands it is all meaningless until he can throw hard from a mound.

'I just want to be able to get out front (in his delivery) and then follow through,' said McGlinchy, who has spent 52 of the season's first 76 days on the DL. 'That's what was really bothering me -- my follow-through. I just want to see how it feels off the mound. That's when I'll be able to put my mind at ease.'

He is still targeting July 1 for his return."

06.16.00: News! (Got it from the Macon Telegraph; don't know who wrote it):

"Kevin McGlinchy plans to climb back on a mound Monday in Philadelphia, the start of his return from a stiff right shoulder that's landed him on the disabled list twice already this season. As part of his rehabilitation, he's played catch from 60 feet for the last several days and upped it to 120 feet Thursday.

He reports no pain and is hopeful that he can start a minor league rehab assignment within 10 days.

'Compared to when I first went on the DL, it feels a whole lot better, but throwing off a mound is the big thing,' McGlinchy said."

06.15.00: I finally got to watch the Braves game tonight. I gotta tell you, working at night really sucks sometimes. TBS actually showed this sustained shot of Kevin McGlinchy because he was sitting next to Bobby Bo and doing some kind of funky thing with his tongue. (They showed him because he was sitting next to Bonilla, who was sitting in the bullpen because he didn't want to run all the way into the dugout from the outfield. That was the story. The funky tongue thing was just an aside. It was funny.) I've decided I like the goatee. A lot. He should grow it back. It's nice. I've also decided the Braves should re-sign John LeRoy. He's playing independent ball, in the Northern League, right now and he could be of much help in the bullpen. I firmly believe that. He pitched last night (starting) and took a perfect game into the sixth inning. I tell you, he could help. And I don't mean this in a bad way, really I don't, but could it be any worse than Don Wengert? Actually it could. But you get the idea.

06.11.00: So he played catch on Friday and that's all I've heard. I suppose no news is good news.

06.06.00: July 1 would be excellent. But what do the Braves think? And whatever will happen to John Rocker? I gotta tell ya, I'd be pretty darn upset if I was Derrin Ebert or Damian Moss, seeing as how they're both lefties having decent seasons at Richmond and when Rocker, a lefty, got sent down, the Braves called up right-hander Jason Marquis from Greenville... Which is not to say that I don't like Jason Marquis. I do. But Don Wengert got called up. Anyway. Thomas Stinson did the Braves notebook today:

"Kevin McGlinchy, on the disabled list a second time since May 24 with a sore right shoulder, will be allowed to play catch for the first time in 2 1/2 weeks on Friday. Depending on how his shoulder responds, he will gradually build up to long-toss before attempting to throw hard. He has targeted July 1 for a return, though the Braves have their own schedule.

'I already feel stronger,' he said."

06.03.00: If you figure out the dates, this means he'll be on rehab sometime after June 16. So one hopes that he would in fact make the Boston series at Fenway. From Carroll Rogers:

"McGlinchy got the word from Dr. James Andrews this week that what's ailing his shoulder is strictly tendinitis and that rest is all he needs. McGlinchy hasn't pitched since May 23, when he felt a twinge on the mound in Milwaukee, prompting the Braves to put him on the disabled list for the second time this season.

McGlinchy will begin throwing some long toss next Friday, but he won't throw off the mound for more than a week after that at the earliest. Soon after that he'll go on another minor-league rehabilitation assignment.

'I need a lot of rest,' McGlinchy said. 'I've got to make sure we knock it out before we get in the same situation again.'

One date he's targeting is the Braves' July 7-9 series in Boston. McGlinchy is a native of Malden, Mass., and he didn't get to pitch in the Braves' series at Fenway Park last June."
