McGlinchy reinforces spot on roster

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. -- Kevin McGlinchy was kidding around Saturday morning when he looked wide-eyed at the message on the board in the clubhouse, which said "clean out lockers."

The reminder was for Braves players to pack most of their belongings to put on the truck that was headed for Atlanta. But McGlinchy laughed and said he was taking his stuff with him, in case it got sent to the wrong place.

But as it looks right now, McGlinchy will be at Turner Field on Opening Day. If Bruce Chen winds up in AAA Richmond and Odalis Perez is the fifth starter, then the bullpen would be all but set with Mark Wohlers, John Rocker, Rudy Seanez, Mike Remlinger, Mike Cather and McGlinchy.

"I don't know what the percentages are or how close I am, but I put a uniform on every day and it's a privilege," McGlinchy said.

On Saturday against the Royals, McGlinchy continued to impress by throwing strikes. In the seventh inning, he got three fly-outs and missed the strike zone only twice. A runner got on, but only because of a Keith Lockhart error.

"The thing you like best is he's got a great arm," manager Bobby Cox said. "The good thing is he's got good control with it. . . . That's why he got a chance to pitch higher faster."
